The Institute of Architecture at the University of Pécs (Hungary) presents a selection
of architectural works designed by its staff over the past five years.
The results of professional practice and the influence of academic impacts have defined
the architectural education in Pécs from its inception. The daily teaching methodology,
formerly called the 'Master-Student Relationship' and now known as 'Research by Design,'
celebrates professional practice and real productivity. The realized buildings are
disseminated through simulations, modelling, and publications, resulting creative
or scientific results. On the other hand, there is an emphasis on the periodic evaluation
of these buildings from the perspective of Hungarian or international architectural
professionals.
The Institute of Architecture at the University of Pécs oversees approximately 1,300
students, a significant portion of the university's total 25,000 students. International
students and lecturers are prominent, spanning undergraduate to doctoral levels.
Our city, Pécs, is deeply infused with architectural values. The historicist buildings
in the city centre, the neo-Gothic cathedral, and the 2,000-year-old early Christian
architectural monuments provide the university with an inspiring environment. The
modern architecture of 20th-century Pécs is also one of the birthplaces of the Bauhaus
School. It is, therefore, unsurprising that the doctoral school of architecture is
named after the Pécs-born Bauhaus master Marcel Breuer.
'THE SELECTION' unites Hungarian academic architects and esteemed Chinese architects,
celebrating the universality of architecture. Some Chinese exhibitors are staff members
of partner institutions, while others are graduates of the international Marcel Breuer
School of Architecture (University of Pécs).
This exhibition underscores our collective representation of the excellence of architectural
practice, the importance of international architectural education, and the significance
of a cross-border perspective.
