In the era of socialism, 4 April counted as one of the most significant feasts of Hungary between 1950 and 1989, as the day of the liberation, several public places, streets and squares, were named after it. Already one year after the happenings, The Hungarian press was dealing with the introduction of the events and their consequences and effects connected to the date. In the present study, I am outlining those articles and coverages of nationwide daily newspapers, which are related to the feast, and appeared on 4 April and the days following that. Starting out from 1946, I am concentrating on round anniversaries, through which I perceived if there were any differences of point of view or emphasis among the writings of the organs publishing in the same year. Furthermore, I also observed if we could see any differences and changes in the coverage of the feast, at the time of the particular eras (coalition period, Rákosi-era, mature Kádárism, decline of the regime).
