In the study, two databases were used. Eurostat's agricultural database for international comparison and a database of financial statements of agricultural firms to assess the performance of each subsector. The conclusions of the article are as follows: The contribution of agriculture to Hungary's GDP is gradually decreasing, as it is a very risky and low-profitability sector (on average). Nothing in the company database is reflected in the large increase in production value reported to Eurostat. State aid does not outweigh the risk of farming.
