The settlement was mentioned the earliest in 1246 gaining urban privileges. The present-day Calvinist church is built in late Gothic style and preserves valuable artistic details. During the archaeological research in the interior, foundations of an earlier church with semicircular apse was discovered, dating from the second half of the 13th century. To the west, part of an even earlier structure was revealed. On the exterior, on the northern part, foundations of the demolished sacristy were discovered, together with two annexes of the church. There were medieval and early modern burials inside and around the church, but they disturbed each other and part of them was liquidated during the modern period.
