Archaeological research in the medieval town of Mintiu in 2023. During the Middle
Ages, the town of Satu Mare consisted of two settlements with their own administration.
The area affected by the construction project is in the center part of the town of
Mintiu/Németi, which is located north of the present city. On this occasion, we were
able to investigate three areas covering an area of 998 square meters. During the
work we were able to identify 28 archaeological features. Most of them can be dated
to the 18th to 19th centuries, but in area S1 we found four features dating to the
14th to 16th centuries. The annexes identified in S1 shed light on the layout and
topography of the medieval and pre-modern topography of the town, as their orientation
towards the state front indicates that the north-south running Ady-Endre Street functioned
as the main street of Mintiu over the centuries.
