Archaeological investigations at the Castle of Ardud (Erdőd) in 2023. The research
was necessary to prepare the documentation for the restoration project of the monument
focusing on the north-western tower. Two sections were excavated around the tower,
one
inside the tower and one outside. During the archaeological investigations, we had
the opportunity to identify elements of the medieval fortress with stone walls and
structures of the baroque castle, with features which helped to establish chronology.
The archaeological finds came from the prehistoric settlement, the medieval fortress
and the Baroque castle.
