The study focuses on various aspects of romantic love and the ways it is viewed and associated with in proverbs from around the world. My discussion is organized in two parts. While in the first part of the study I discuss the paremiological issue of the metaphorical nature of proverbs and refer to three publications of mine, in the second part I address how romantic love is conceptualized in proverbs from around the world. I treat various metaphors of love proposed by Kövecses such as love as a living organism, love as an inanimate object, love as heat and fire, love as a lack of control, love as foolishness, insanity and lack of wisdom, love as war, and love as unity.
