We present here the results relating to the ultracool regime within 100pc from the
Gaia Catalogue of Nearby Stars, published as a science verification paper of the recent
Gaia early data release 3. We provide updated evidence for the stellar/ substellar
boundary being around L3 via the volume limited luminosity function. We estimate completeness
of Gaia and show how thousands of new ultracool dwarf candidates have been selected.
