Cariprazine is a dopamine D3 preferring D3/D2 receptor partial agonist antipsychotic indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorders. Efficacy has been proven in randomized controlled studies, and the main indications are predominant negative symptoms in schizophrenia associated with the D3-receptor binding. Main side effects are akathisia, insomnia, and constipation. Compared with other antipsychotics, little effects on metabolic and cardiovascular parameters have been reported. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022.
