Fonológia 575 2016 A Strukturális magyar nyelvtan jelen második kötete a fonológiával foglalkozik, tehát a beszéd hangjelenségeit a nyelvi rendszerben betöltött helyük és szerepük, vagyis nyelvi funkcióik szerint vizsgálja. Kötetünkben a legkülönbözőbb „posztgeneratív" fonológiai elméletek vonulnak fel: ezeket a Bevezető röviden bemutatja. Ma nem áll mindent átfogó fonológiai elmélet a rendelkezésünkre: mindegyik elmélet a fonológia egy-egy meghatározott jelenségcsoportjára összpontosítja a figyelmét, s így az ismert tényeket is meglepő, új összefüggésekbe tudja állítani. Az öt törzsfejezet (A magánhangzók, A mássalhangzók, A szótag, A hangsúly, A hanglejtés) áttekinti a magyar fonológia minden területét: mindazonáltal célunk a legizgalmasabb kérdések elméleti igényű tárgyalása volt - gyakran több elmélet fényében is megvilágítva -, nem pedig egy egységes elméleti keretű, teljes magyar fonológia kidolgozása.
