Kutatásunk célja annak meghatározása, hogy az építőiparban mekkora környezeti hatás kerülhető el innovatív, környezetbarát technológiák alkalmazásával. Elemzésünkben a környezeti hatást – korábbi kutatásainkhoz hasonlóan – az ökológiai lábnyom mutatóval mértük. Az alkalmazott minta két, hasonló méretű, kb. 100 m2 alapterületű családi házat tartalmazott, ahol a Ház 1 egy gerendaház, amely, kizárólag fa, illetve faipari termékekből épült, míg a Ház 2 a manapság bevett, betonszerkezetes, falazóblokkos technológia alkalmazásával készült. A vizsgálatban kizárólag azokat az elemeket szerepeltettük, amelyek a két épület esetében eltérnek, a potenciálisan hasonló tételeket (pl. alapozás, tetőfedés, gépészet stb.) figyelmen kívül hagytuk. Számításaink alapján a Ház 2 megépítéséhez a Ház 1-hez képest közel négyszer annyi (11,17 vs. 39,88 tonna) CO2 kapcsolódik.
