A továbbiakban előszámlálok néhány (részben vizuális antropológiai, részben aktivista dokumentumfilmes jellegű) előzményt és példát a fejlesztési területeken alkalmazott részvételi videós módszer történetéből. Hasonlóképpen utalok néhány meghatározó szakirodalomra és az érintett tudományterületekre, melyek számosak. A szakirodalomról szólva külön hangsúlyozom azokat a munkákat, amelyekben a szerzők megpróbálnak összefoglalást adni a részvételi videóról szóló aktuális szakirodalomról, hogy ezzel is segítsék a különböző kutatások közti kommunikációt és a részvételi videós szakemberek rálátását a területre. Majd a vizuális-performatív módszerek hálózatának rövid ismertetése után bemutatom az ELTE Média Tanszékén működő Minor Média/Kultúra Kutatóközpont munkáját, különös tekintettel a részvételi videós projektekre. Végül a jelen blokkban olvasható tanulmányokról ejtek néhány szót.
