Factors hindering international student mobility and their underlying explanations

The goal of our study is to uncover which factors play a role in the mobility plans of international students. According to our theoretical starting point, higher education's internationalization receives an ever-increasing role here at home, simultaneously creating opportunities and advantages with academic and labor market perspectives, along with social inequalities. Student mobility is one of the types of internationalization that comes in contact with individuals.In their case, social inequalities do not only mean whether participating in international study or not will affect their careers, but also that the opportunities to get "plugged into" mobility at this point no longer have the same basis. We examine these differences in the first step of deciding about mobility: the planning stage. For our analysis, we utilized the Debrecen University's Center for Higher Education Research and Development's PERSIST database, and within that the Debrecen subsample (N= 851). Based on our results, there was a greater show of connection among the plan to study abroad and the father's higher educational degree, the student's linguistic prowess, and the family's financial situation. Moreover, we further examined plans to study abroad with the help of attitudinal variables - confidence in the university was negative, adaptability positive, still the affinity for academics ran negative when regarding plans to study internationally.
