Ráadásul ahogy telik az idő, egyre több olyan írásos emléket ismerünk ugyanis, amely a magyarsággal rokon kultúrához tartozik, de úgy tudjuk, hogy nem magyar, végképp nem székely írás. Nyelvük és tartalmuk jórészt megfejtetlen, illetve négy-öt egymással vetélkedő megfejtésük is ismert a tudományos világban: az igazit, a helyeset pedig valószínűleg még nem ismerjük. A néphez, kultúrához tartozásukat valamennyire ismerjük: az avar birodalomhoz köthetők, vagy pedig még régebbi keleti népekhez. Meggyőződésünk tehát, hogy egy modern rovásíráskorpusz csak akkor lehet időtálló, szakmailag sikeres, ha nem szorítkozik a bizonyítottan magyar/székely rovásírásra, hanem tágabb kitekintésben a Kárpát-medencei rovásírások teljes gyűjteményét tartalmazza. Erre teszünk most kísérletet gyűjteményünkkel, amely nyilván távol van a tökéletességtől (mint egy kialakulóban levő tudományágnál elkerülhetetlen), de talán tudott okulni a megelőző művek hiányosságaiból. A most megjelenő anyag egyelőre csak a munka egyik fele: a feliratos anyagot tartalmazza, illetve a korai időszakban a kéziratos anyagot is. Ezt a megoldást kellett választanunk, különben a mű megjelenésére indokolatlanul sokat kellene várni: fontosabbnak gondoljuk, hogy a többé-kevésbé egységben értelmezhető feliratos anyag most napvilágot lásson.
