It is an exploratoryresearch that tries to discover new relationships.Design/methodology/approach–The study entailedfour mix-methodscase studies. 67 questionnaires and 11 interviewswere conductedwith respondents of the focal organisations and strategic suppliers;the respondents hadtop and middlemanagement positions.The quantitative results were analysed viacorrelation and regression analysis. The findings were then triangulatedthroughcontent analysis ofthe interviews. Findings–The results indicate a relationship between organisational culture and supply chain performance. Congruence in organisational culturebetweenthe focal organisation and strategic supplierhas a positive effect on supply chain performance. On the flipside, deviance has a negative effect on supply chain performance. In the supply chain there is a significant positiverelationshipon supply chain performance when the focal organisation has an adhocracy culture. However,there is a significant negativerelationshipon supply chain performance when the focal organisation has a hierarchy culture.Research limitations/implications–As this was an exploratory research, a small sample size was appropriate. The sample size, however, has its limitations, as certain findingsdid show good resultsbut were not significant.Thesefindings were such that they justify further large-sample,large-scale hypothesis-testing. This could be a valuable insight with practical implications for improving supply chain performance. Originality/value–Most research projects about the effects of organisational culture on performance look at the effects of culture within the boundaries of one organisation.
