The first habitat was a typically high-hilly area with an average of 600 m altitude above sea level (ASL), located in Eastern Carpathian Mountains, covered in 40% by forests and abundant in protected large carnivore species. The other habitat was situated in the Southern part of Romania, in the river-flats of the Olt River. The forest cover was about 21% and the agricultural arable land above 50%. The top predator of the studied area was the golden jackal (Canis aureus).\nFor studying the spatial ecology, I trapped, and after chemical immobilization, I fitted with GPS collars 5 wild boars. Two individuals were collared on the high-hilly area, 3 in flatlands. All the collared individuals were relocated at 10 to 15 km distance from the trapping zone. I have received 737 to 9065 GPS locations in a period of 37 to 380 days. Data reception was influenced mainly by GSM coverage. In order to establish vulnerable buffer zones regarding crop damages I studied the use of agricultural areas in five buffer zones near forests where I found main resting places for the boars. The minimal distance of each agricultural area was also determined. In addition I calculated the mean dimension of each agricultural area, in order to find relation between their dimension and the intensity of use.\n For the study of reproductive parameters, I collected reproductive tracts (uterus and ovaries) the mandibula or premolar teeth for ageing and one of the kidneys and the kidney fat to study the body condition of 167 female wild boars shot during hunts. 114 samples were collected in Carpathians while 53 in the southern study area. \nI found that the seasonal, and yearly home ranges are bigger than in previous European study results. I found the biggest yearly home range in flatland area (4000 ha with MCP method), which is inconsistent with the hypothesis of bigger home ranges in mountainous areas. Related to habitat use, my results show that the wild boar avoid the artificial areas, water bodies and agricultural areas. Habitat use is strongly connected to forests and in some cases, is liable to urbanization. If we focus on agricultural land use close to forest zones we can state that the most intense activity takes place in a 100-250m buffer zone near the forest but this activity is in strong relation with minimum distance of the agricultural area and there is no relation between activity and mean dimension of the agricultural area. The serious problem of habituation was studied and stated than the phenomenon seems to be shown only by one exemplar which was captured from an enclosed game reserve and released on mentioned habitat. The monthly activity in agricultural areas make the KHR of each individual bigger in summer and autumn period than in winter and spring. Between these variables I found a strong statistical relation. I studied also the dispersion of exemplars during the drive hunting season, particularly in relation with other disturbing agents. I found that the relation between daily dispersion of individuals and drive hunting is a strong significant relation. \nThe study of reproductive parameters show highly synchronized reproduction periods at population level in mountainous areas and the same synchrony of farrowing in lowlands with a second period of births at 10% of sows in August to September. There are no habitat related differences between the prevalence of pregnancies and the numbers of fetuses, but the numbers of corpora lutea were significantly higher in mountain habitats than in lowlands. These results show a higher reproductive performance of the populations living in higher altitudinal zones, but at the same time the embryonic mortalities are also higher in these habitats.
