    Urban heat island (UHI) is one of the significant urban ecologycal problems. Many researchers emphasize the necessity of UHI analysis to support city planning and urban space design. We used the method of heat mapping with satellite images and heatcameras to measure surface temperature. Land surface temperature maps were prepared from 56 images of distinct summer days in the years 2013-2016. The field survey heatcamera images were prepared in 2016. We mapped and analyzed the spatial structure of the UHI phenomena for Debrecen, the second largest city of Hungary. The hottest areas are industrial and commercial buildings and railway stations. The most important cooling and conditioning elements are forests, parks and reservoirs. The land surface temperature map is available on the internal website of the municipality to support future city planning.
