Valve-chatter is a centre issue in the design of hydraulic circuits. Understanding
the phenomenon is essential to construct sizing rules. In this article an analytical
investigation of a mathematical model is shortly presented which tends to undergo
self-excited vibrations. Thereafter measurement results will be introduced obtained
from a hydraulic test valve showing the signs of self-excited vibration.
