Under mechanical stress/strain, local temperature changes will be effected as shown
by Joule and Thomson. Consequently, conductive energy currents due finite temperature
gradients may appear. They are irreversible processes, indicated also by increase
in over-all entropy and this signifies an energy loss. The mechanism of this loss
is identified as the periodic thermal expansion being out-of-phase with the exciting
force.
