Energy efficient operation is of paramount importance in wireless sensor networks.
In this paper we propose a novel solution to rterrea.se energy consumption by adaptively
moving the sink node. We assume an event driven scenario, where only a reduced number
of activated sensors report to the sink node. We also assume that these events have
to be reported in real-time, a requirement that makes the existing random or controlled
sink mobility solutions inappropriate. We define three different strategies to adaptively
move the sink node; the goal is to reduce the communication distance, and thus the
energy consumption, of the reporting nodes. The efficiency of the strategies is evaluated
through simulations.
