His lab, together with the High Throughput Screening and Medicinal Chemistry groups, comprise the Drug Discovery Center at the GRI. Dr. Wortman's research focus areas include central nervous system regulation of energy homeostasis, cancer and metabolic disease, and the application of high-performance computing tools to biomedical research and drug discovery. Dr. Wortman's group has used in silico screening techniques to identify novel, biologically active small molecules that disrupt protein:protein interactions, antagonize cell-surface receptors, inhibit kinases, and block steroid receptors. Dr. Wortman's group is currently supported by awards from the NIH, NSF, and DoD. \n Funding text 2: Dr. Kasckow also performs research in depression in older patients with schizophrenia focusing specifically on interventions. He is currently the principal investigator of a Department of Veterans research grant and of a research grant from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Dr. Kasckow has also been the recipient of grant support from the NIMH, NARSAD, and Donald Reynold's Foundation. He has authored over 90 peer-reviewed papers in clinical psychiatry and neuroscience research. Dr. Kasckow completed his MD–PhD training at the University of Rochester and then trained as a psychiatry resident at Duke University. This was followed by fellowship training at the UCLA School of Medicine. He was the Program Director for the 2001 American association for Geriatric Psychiatry meeting and has been recently named in ‘Who's who in Medicine Higher Education’ and was the recipient of the Society of Biological Psychiatry Dista Award.\nCincinnati VAMC, University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Cincinnati, OH, United States \n University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, OH, United States \n VA Pittsburgh Health Care System Behavioral Health, Pittsburgh, PA, United States \n Cited By :4 \n Export Date: 4 February 2021 \n Correspondence Address: Geracioti, T.D.; Cincinnati VAMC, , Cincinnati, OH, United States \n Funding details: U.S. Department of Defense, DOD \n Funding details: National Institutes of Health, NIH \n Funding details: National Science Foundation, NSF \n Funding details: National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression, NARSAD \n Funding details: National Institute of Mental Health, NIMH \n Funding details: American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, AFSP \n Funding text 1: Matthew Wortman, PhD, is the director of computational biology and information technology at the Genome Research Institute (GRI) of the University of Cincinnati, where he received his PhD in the Neuroscience Program.
