At The Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Department of Fluid Mechanics
(DFM), the application of a multi-component hot wire measuring system provided a basis
for the experimental validation of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools in the
research and development of axial flow turbomachinery of controlled vortex design
with forward blade skew. A case study is presented herein showing the way in which
the measurements were conducted, and how the results were applied for CFD validation
and in obtaining guidelines for CFD improvement.
