As recently as the 1990s, Hungarian addiction researchers denied E. M. Jellinek’s
Hungarian roots (Kelemen, 1990; Métneki, 1996), even though Jellinek’s connections
to Hungary were already acknowledged in biographies about Géza Róheim, anthropologist,
Jellinek’s longtime friend, and QJSA author (e. g., Verebélyi, 1977).
